cameras. at dulaney valley, volume picking up more on the west side. a nice ride coming in from the fort mchenry. that's the latest on traffic pulse 11. >> we begin this morning with some breaking news out of north baltimore where a two-alarm fire sends a family of six running out into the night. >> jennifer franciotti has the update for us. >> good morning. this fire broke out after 2:00 a.m. this morning. inside this house behind the green fields nursery at the corner of northern parkway and falls road. working at the exxon station, across the corner, you say you saw the flames? >> yes. it was almost 2:25 a.m. i was inside working. when i saw the flame, i thought it was the moonlight, and then

after a while i was walking in and after a minute, when i looked out it was getting bigger and bigger. i thought it was fire then and trying to call 911. then i saw the fire trucks coming and said somebody called already. i was walking but the whole time it was getting bigger and bigger. one of the men from the firefighter told me it was like over 100 feets of fire. >> it was very big. >> yes. >> thank you so much for describing what you saw. we want to let you know what happened. apparently this started on the second floor. there were six people inside. four women, a grandfather and a 10-year-old boy. one of the women, a grandmother had to jump from an attic window. the other women had to jump and said they felt the flames

licking them, shooting out of the window touching their hair and arms. they had to jump to safety. right now fire investigators are trying to discover the cause of the fire. they had to pull, it was a very long hose pull, because they had to come up falls road and make this turn on west northern parkway. that hose has been rolled up. we've seen fire equipment leaving. so it's a good sign maybe this portion of falls road will open some time soon. jennifer franciotti, back to you. >> thank you. apparently shootings have left five people wounded. the first shooting took place around 8:30 at the intersection of pistol place and 10th at brooklyn. police found three people wounded. all three are listed in serious condition, but they are expected to survive. and then under two hours later,

more shots fired in east baltimore. this time police say the victimser were a man and woman. the man was hit in the side and the woman suffered a gunshot wound to the thigh. homicide detech i was the are handling this case. >> a woman is accused of beating her aunt to death. d'lana simmons used an anti-autotheft device known as the club to beat as i israelya mitchell to death. she called police herself to report the attack and could not explain why she did it. police arrived found a simmons in the dining room with blood on her and mitchell lying in the living room. >> it appears the victim was struck repeatedly with the club device usually used to secure automobile steering wheels. >> police say they have no motive in this case. the bail review for simmons is set for later today. >> well, it's a make or break vote in the senate.

>> good morning, everybody. welcome back to 11 news today, i'm stan stovall. >> and i'm mindy basara. meteorologist neal estano -- meteorologist tony pann has the weather for us. >> it's going to warm up quickly this afternoon. we expect a lot of sunshine. the high temperatures to be in the upper 70's to low 80's. >> we are following a developing story out of north baltimore where a two-alarm fire sent six people fleing to safety. >> general -- jen, the good news is everyone got out safety? >> yes. and an amazing feat considering how quickly the fire spread. inside the house behind the green fields nursery, at the corner of northern parkway and falls road. according to one of the fire

victims, it happened inside a second-floor bedroom and took just points in spread. six people were inside at the time, four women, a grandfather and 10-year-old boy. the 57-year-old woman was forced to jump from the attic. she injured her leg and was taken to a hospital. two women climbed out to a second-floor roof awning. and one fire victim described what it was like to have to jump from the second floor. >> and i was so scared of the jumping aspect that it took me a minute. and i was on the phone with 911 as it's happening then i heard the boards starting to crack and crack and crack, so i had to jump. i just had to jump. >> and that was christine who also described hearing the windows shattering and could feel the roof was about to go. she talked about as she was making the decision to jump, the fire nipping at her hair

and burning her arm and was treated at the scene for burns but didn't want to go to the hospital. there were six animals two dogs, two cats, a chinchilla and bird and none survived. at this point that's the most heartbreaking part of all this. but all six people were able to get out alive. >> thank you, jen. >> one of six people charged with carrying out the murder for hire of a gas station owner has been convicted. the jury spent less than two hours finding the nephew guilty. porter was shot and killed back in march in what was supposed to look like a gas station robbery. coil and others were paid $9,000 to carry out the crime. >> in other courtroom news, a man accused of beating an hispanic man do death because

of his race. jeremy holly was -- told police he killed martin reyes because he hated mexicans. >> and the assistant coach for the baltimore ravens faces charges for driving under influence again. and you moehler was pulled of on the outer loop of the beltway for speeding. he's charged with seven motor vehicle violations for driving under the information. the first time he was stopped for d.u.i. back in may of this year. in this morning commit 2010 report a new poll in maryland's race for governor and brand-new attacked a. overall still a very tight race but political observers note bob ehrlich has the lead over martin o'malley among independent voters. following the governor's race,

this report was filed. >> this political tved a literally cuts martin o'malley and his -- to pieces. thed a follows a new poll by republican-leading reports calling the rematch a tossup. o'malley leads ehrlich 50%-47%. a statistical tie considering the margin of error. 45% consider the economy the main issue. out of that category o'malley holds a 56%-42% lead over ehrlich and 84% of republicans back ehrlich as do 27% of independent voters. political science professor says montgomery has the largest number of independent voters in the state. >> it adds up to a lot of votes. if he can get those votes for

himself and take them away from o'malley, it could change the election. i don't think that's likely to be the case in montgomery coun. because it's one of the deep blue, bluest couns in maryland. >> 79% of those surveys knows someone out of work or who are looking for work. many believe maryland's job market is getting worse. >> o'malley passed a 20% sales tax hike. >> a tved a pore trays o'malley as the political leader responsible for these hardships. >> martin o'malley. higher taxes, fewer jobs. moving maryland backwards. >> what each candidate needs to do is separate himself from the other in terms of policy.
